Shanghai, China, August 11th 2010 – German-based logon, China project the Zibo Grand Theater is officially short-listed this week at the World Architecture Festival (WAF) 2010. The Theater short-list is for the Future Projects, Cultural category and will be presented to an expert panel of judges in Barcelona in November later this year.

The Zibo Grand Theater will be located in Zibo Shandong province, the birthplace of football and Qi Culture; the city has a rich heritage in pottery and ceramics that inspired the architects to design with this in mind. From the buildings podium, with a solid and enclosed facade made of locally produced stone to the outer white ceramic facade complemented by a structure of windows draped over the surface. The main body floats over a lake hosting three main functions: the Opera Theater, the Cinema Center and the Concert Hall. Patrons of the Concert Hall can simultaneously view the surrounding park backdrop through the large glass facade window when attending a concert while enjoying a performance.

“We are glad the judging panel also could appreciate our design efforts to integrate the local Zibo culture and Qi history into this project” said Frank Krueger, logon Creative Director. WAF is the largest architectural awards program event in the world; this is the second consecutive year a logon project has been short-listed.
